Default 929 electrical problems!

if you have had a problem post what it was and how many miles you had on your bike.

I dont know about you all but my bike only has 19,000 miles on it, and so far i have had to replace the battery, the stator, my headlight wire burned up inside the connecter, and just yesterday my stator wirers were they connect to the battery completly melted the connector box and burned threw themselves. anyone else having electrical problems with this bike?

13,000 miles replaced battery
14,000 miles replaced stator
16,000 miles fixed headlight wire that burned up.
19,000 miles stator wires burned up.

How about a "NONE" in the choices? That is a possibility, and would give a better overview of peoples experiences.

Stator time for me.

Driving the bike to work today to show it off for the first time to my colleagues - it drops me 4 miles from the airport. It died slowly, first losing the display, then finally the fuel pump cut off. Classic charging system failure.

Following the Haynes manual, I tested each system component, and found the stator shorted to ground. I pulled the cover and verified it was burned. Got one on order.

My concern now is that the regulator took it out, so I'll be installing a battery volt/ammeter so I can monitor the batt's state and rate of charge. I would rather change a $150 regulator than another $300 stator.

Can you picture how funny it must have looked when Six finally brings his bike to work, and it shows up dangling like a dead tuna from the tow truck boom?

Somebody shoot me.....

300$ for a stator!! get an aftermarket one for 120$ instead also if you want to kill 2 birds with one stone.. instead of getting the volt meter. get an escort 8500 x50 or a bel rx-65. one of the settings on these radar detectors will tell you your bikes voltage. i use the rx65, so far i have picked up k band as far as 3 miles away before i saw the cop! and my 929 runs around 15-15.3 volts

Nice advice, QuinC. And a cool idea......I may do that.

And yeah, I saw the aftermarket stators. But I'll tell you, I learned something that day - getting stuck in a car and getting stuck on a bike are VERY DIFFERENT. So I guess the experience made me a chicken. I went for the OEM stator. Buck buck bacaw...

yeah i was stuck on my bike for 6 hours the other day untill i conned my dad into picking me up.. i had to jump my bike drive it up onto the hillside then back the truck to it and ride it in the truck. infact i think thats where the moss in my airfilter came from.. anyway i have an aftermarket stator that i put in mine and so far i have over 5k miles on it and only problem so far is it burned threw the connector.. so i had to solder the wires together and ditch the connector.. but i have been having a problem with connectors burning up anyway.

on a side note! triple AAA WILL NOT tow your bike inless you have there bike insurance.. so if your like me and pay for a membership to aaa its pretty much useless inless you need a jumpstart, gas or you somehow lock your keys in your bike.

Hey QuinC -

Talkin about voltmeters - I was considering what you said about the radar detector, and I may still do that in the future. But surfing around the net I stumbled across this digital voltmeter/clock/stop watch etc etc.....

http://www.casporttouring.com/store/...de=Electronics

......and for the money I figured what the hell. Actually works nice. I mounted it just under the stock cluster.

When I get pics I'll post em.
