Well before my 93 CBR 900 was torn apart for the rebuild, it was keeping up with mostly everything, but i have ALOT of mods on it,
Like, Lindemann Full Syspention, WAYYYY jetted out carbs [120] K and N filter, D and D full exaust, Timing Advance, Iridium NGK plugs [yes they make a differance] 46T rear sprocket and 15T front. After the Full rebuilt i expect it to be running a bit better, get my carbsin Sync finally.!!might change the dam sprockets to stock ones to much torque throws the old lady back in the rear, But in the event you come across a dude with a modded up newer bike then youll have to eat it, but all in all i enjoy it and i like the body design over most bikes and its cool when you got something that most people riding Dont have. plus in a tight turn ill pwn them newer bikes, might be due to the Lindemann Syspention system. but thats my 2Cents

But 1st gear is so long I feel I can reach 70 mph in that gear alone!

Just kidding! Honestly, I barely get out of 3rd gear in normal riding.

On the freeways I can get into 6th gear and there's a lot of power left.

Back in the 90s if you owned a 900 or an 1100 it LOOKED the part, I dare someone to look at my 900rr and even think its a 600...where as today people can easily mistake a 1000 for a 600 cause they both look the same at a glance. Im 6'3 215lbs and anything post 90s looks and feels like a toy, the 929s and 954s and other F.I. bikes have choppy throttles compared to the smooth thottle response of the 900rr...I rode my friends 636, r6, gsxr600s, RRs and F4is andIll admit I was impressed with the power of the new 600s but I felt like I was already halfway over the bars, and my heels felt inches from my ***. I can ride my bike all day and not need a spine adjustment afterward.....thats what I think

I took my bike out last night with a bunch of sportbikes, and apart from a prehistoric looking XX it was the oldest bike there. Ive only had the bike a few days, and only ridden it once in anger, and then that was pretty restrained, keeping the revs below 9000..

Let me confirm that in the dark, spinning the thing to redline I was able to fly past all the 600's and left some R1's in my wake when the road was straight and clear, and thanks to years of night riding was able to get a nice healthy lead when the streetlights disapeared.

That being said I used to ride an 86 FZ600 and was able to keep all but the most determined litrebikes in sight when blasting into the countryside, and could catch the more sane in the group in the corners..even if I was pushed to the back of the pack on even the shortest of straights.

I'll put it like this. unless you've got a busa,or a zx14 it's gonna be a riders battle! I've got mad mods on my 98 900rr Ive raced a 636 and a 600rr in a straight line and smoked em both and i'm a lso not small at 6'1 200. F.I. is everything it's made upto be but go with a 520 conversion wtih a +2 -1 set up and some well synced carbs and I'm sure you will be more than o.k and to the guy who said comparing a 900rr to a modern liter bike is like a comparing a model t to a z06,I don't agree with that were talkin 9 years if you have a 99 rr. If you no what to do and got the $ that model t could become a shelby gt 500 real quick you feel me? ALPHA

When you're talking about sportbikes 9 years is more than a lifetime. Sportbikes become outdated about as fast as computers.

,,,Its never been how good the bike is, but how good the chap (or chick) is who is at the controls... A well ridden 900RR will decimate an 08 litrebike with a less skilled rider at the helm..

I totally agree but the bike still has something to do with it. If the same rider puts an old 900 through it's pacesand then does the same withjust about any more modern sportbikethey're going to do better on the newermachine, provided he/she can be just as comfortable on both bikes.

But as far as, "Is a newer bike better than an older one?" There's really no way to answer that. The "BEST" bike is the one that best suits the rider.
