Default Valve clearance /cct retract?

Hi guys. I'm trying to check my valve clearances. I got the cover off. My manual says to retract the cct without removing it (cause there is no need). I don't have the honda locking tool. It shows a way to make it out of steel but that seems like a big hassle. Should I just take the whole thing off? Will that be easier? Its automatic so I dont have to adjust it to put it back on , right? I was told u dont need to retract the cct to check clearances but the manual says to do it. Thanks

To check them, there is no need to loosen the chain. In fact, you must leave it tight while rotating the engine.

To adjust them, you need to put slack in the chain to get it off the cams to remove them.

I'm sure you already got it back together by now, or at least I hope so...

Yes, It's done. I checked the clearances and they were perfect. No adjustment needed. Intakes were all .007 and All the exhaust were .010 except one was .011. Anyway, I retracted it like the manual said to. I have read conflicting answers as to whether you should retract it or not. I stuck a small screwdriver in there and wound it up and clamped it to the bike with a woodworkers clamp. It came off a few times but I put it back on. Even the honda manual says to do it so..... I should've made a video for youtube. It was actually pretty easy (Even if I messsed something up hehehe
