Default Upper trip tree help.

So when i crashed my bike i damages the left clip-on, I took off the upper triple tree and now i'm starting to put it back togeather and someone said the the center nut had to be torqued. Is this true? what is the torque spec? Thanks

True to a degree. If you don't tighten it enough, it may back off. I'm guessing it prob. torques to somewhere in the 70 to 80 lb/ft range. The important nuts are the two underneath the upper tree...these two control the pressure on the roller bearings inside the neck (the upper one is a locknut). If you overtigten, the bearings will be clamped too much and thefront wheelmay have a tough time finding its center, causing you to look like a fool weaving from side to side.
