Susp settings for my 900rr
I just got a new (to me) 1995 900rr. I weigh about 240 with riding gear on and usually do no carry a passenger. The bike is mostly stock with a slip-on and flush mount signals as the only mods that I know of. How do I go about setting up the front and rear suspension for my correct weight, and just how many parameters are easily adjustable? Ie compression, rebound, rebound dampening, compression dampening, etc. Just looking for some advice, as the seller was at least 60 lbs lighter than me.
Thanks,
J

First off, set the sag. I dont know if the spring will be stiff enough to accomodate a rider of your weight, but you will probably crank the rear and front preload all the way up. Then check it. After you have that set up, you pretty much have to do a track day to really push your suspension hard enough to notice rebound and compression settings.

look in the how to section and they step through suspension setting. Good luck.

set your sag for 32mm- 37mm in front. and 27mm-32mm in rear.
find a recommended intital set-up on rebound and compression. sportrider.com has a good set-up for the RR. that should be fine for the street.
if you're not going to "race" the bike, don't set it up on a track day. everyone seems to think a fast race bike would be a fast street bike. not the case. race bikes are set-up full stiff. the harder you set-up the suspension the more unstable the bike becomes. set the bike up so you have a plush ride, not soft but plush. too stiff and you'll run the risk of lowsiding around turns and high speed instability.
good luck......
