Default Original RR a heavy bike? I think not.

I always see comments about how the old bikes are heavy and what not. I know that they were, by far, the lightest open class bikes when they came out in '92, but how do they compare to today's open class bikes?

Well, it appears that it is still lighter than the Aprilia RSV4, Kawasaki ZX-10R, and YZF-R1. It is equal to the Beemer. Not too shabby for an old dog.

1993 900RR = 461lbs wet

2010 Aprilia RSV4 R = 473lbs wet
2010 BMW S 1000RR = 461lbs wet
2010 CBR1000RR = 442lbs wet
2010 Kawa ZX-10R = 462lbs wet
2010 Yama YZF-R1 = 477lbs wet

Now if we could only add 40 more horsepower.....

Are those weights accurate? They seem a lil high. My 94 RR with stretched arm, added electronics, air shifter setup, and 40 lb. heavier Blackbird motor weighs 440 lbs. even with half gallon of fuel. Just curious if those were figures were right. And you are correct, these "old bikes" were years ahead of their time.

Actually, I have a bunch of the original magazines from back then and they claim 457 in some and 461 in others. That being said, I gave went with the higher number. Even with the 457, it falls in the same basic range but beats out the BMW by 4lbs.

Claimed dry weight was 408lbs.
With fluid/ empty tank was 432lbs.
With fluid/ full tank was 461 or 457lbs depending on which magazine you went with.

kinda interesting how bragging rights are based on things that arent most crucial, especially around Fresno with all the newbies we have.

my bike is better cuz I have pazzos and an undertail......

My daily rider is a 620lb BMW R1150RT and I take it up to the hills all the time and ride with packs of guys on their sportbikes - and I can hang with 90% of them.

This thread certainly was not meant to be a "bragging rights" thing. More like a comparison between today's bikes to the pushing 20 year old 900RR. I have read a good amount of posts saying that they are heavy bikes when, in actuality, the compare pretty favorably in that category. I never said that it was actually better than the new bikes in any sort of way.

bambam - I have that same brochure. I believe it is the black, purple, and yellow bike that is on the scale.
