Default oil behind stator cover

I recently have aquired a '93 cbr 900rr I have been slowly repairing it and riding it. One day the bike stopped running I replaced the battery thinking it was bad and it ran fine until the new battery went dead, after looking further into problem I found the rec/reg was fried as well as the conntections from the stator, I replaced both pieces but still no luck, I have followed the trouble shooting diagram in this forum and all seems to be checking out. But the ignition switch seems to be getting very warm in fact hot, as well as the stator wire. When I remove the headlight relay the ignition wire stays cool. But my main question is, How much if any oil should be behind the stator cover? If there is too much will this cause a ground or short to my stator and related equipment that would cause my wires to run hot? If there is not supposed to be any oil or very little if any has anybody changed out the seal behind the fly wheel.
