Default New vs. Old

I have a 95 900rr with a full hindle exhaust, k&n, and stage 1 jet kit.
I have rode with around 5 different people with 05-07 1000rr's. The people with the complete stock bikes were just as fast as my bike and the guys with the modded bikes were only a little bit faster.
I guess I just expected the newer bikes to dominate my older bike on the road.
Any of you guys notice a large difference between the old vs. the new in performance? I know the newer ones have newer technology and better parts, I am just wondering about flat out sit on the seat and ride the roads.
Thanks guys.

There really isn't significant "improvements" from year or two, even 3-4 years off the differances there are tend to be slightly advantageous for one aspect, but lower in another. For example; the 94 900rr vs the 96 900rr. Specs aremostly better for the 96, but the 94 has aquicker 1/4 mile rating.
As to add on's, the changes aren't that great a differance for just addind a slip on or changing your air filter/plugs to "top of the line". There is a differance in recordable performance, but you won't really notice MUCH of a differance between that and stock. Now the changing of gearing and the power units... that's w while new story.

A stock 1000RR should be able to smoke your 900. I guess I havent taken one on but a GSX-R 1000 would eat my 99 900RR with full exhaust, K&N, and jet kit, -1 520 for lunch after 3rd gear. That was my brothers 01 with just a slip on and I'm quite certain my stock 02 1000 would obliterate my 900RR as it's a dead heat with my brothers 01. Stands to reason. At the track it's anyones game though, I've passed ZX-10R's and 1000RR's etc, with my 900 at the track because that puts more emphasis on the rider's abilities. In a flat out, pin it wide open in 2nd gear, a new bike should be able to hold you off with out a problem, if not then I guess I'm glad I didnt get a 1000RR. LOL.
To answer your question though, YES, the new liter bikes I'VE ridden were all quicker than my 900 from a roll on in 2nd gear, from a slow start in 1st I could hold all of them off through 3rd, and some off through 4th at which point you're going so fast anyway it doesnt really matter.

Top end yes, should eat it up, but off the line the 900 should have it.

Don't forget that corny saying, "It's not the ride; it's the rider!".

It does hold a lot of truth though. My good friend has a gixxer 600 and I can't lose him through the twisties. I'm a pretty good rider. He's an AWESOME rider.

No doubt, no doubt. But I was meaning to a straight away. And that little 600 has the advantage in them twisties, his bike is a little more forgiving to an early shift, your bike has a lot more power which can check your urge for a full throttle crack open.

I prolly couldn't outrun my kid on his Yammy 250 dirtbike cause I can't launch!I ride a 94 900rr w/Hindle Exhaust, Stage 3 Kit, 520 Chain conversion -1 +2 w/Vortex sprockets, K&N Filter etc etc etc. But he's confident on his dirt bike. The rider makes a world of difference!

I'm going to be getting a new bike soon. I just dont know if its worth the 11grand for a brand spankin new bike or the 5grand for a very nice used newer bike if the performance isnt going to be that much of a difference. Decisions, Decisions......
Not to mention that a new bike still needs to get at the bells and whistles, while a used one already has some.

I'd buy used. Buying new is nice but not worth it... value drops $1,500 the moment you drive it off the lot and another $2,000 once the new models come out. I'll buy a 1000rr when my 900rr is finally finished.
