Default New to the Forum questions

I have an opportunity to buy a 93 900 RR with around 14K.
the asking price is $2500
It is RWB paint scheme and in good condition. It comes froma friend.
The RF fairing has a few cracks in it and it has been stored outside so there is some oxidation to some of the engine casing etc.

It has a new chain and sprockets.

Is this a fair price for this model....?

I understand that the wheels are 16" and that tire selection is not as good as what I can get in 17". What tires can be had?

I welcome any comments.

Looks like it might be a good toy to add to the collection I already have.

Thanks,

Chris

Thats low mileage for the year, I'd get it. Always good to expand the collection! (Esp with a 900)

It doesn't sound like ahorrible price. Everything else ok? Brakes, fluids, tires? You might see if they will come down a little to offset what you will have to put into it if it needs anything.

I have Metzler M3's on my 93, and LOVE them! Even had them at the track, and they performed great! I had a set of M1's before that and found they worked well on the street (never did a trackday with them). And just the frontwheelis a 16 inch the rear is a 17.

I would say go for it. I love mine. They are getting hard to find in good shape.

Jump on it, 900RR's gettin hard to find . Especially 93's . As far as tires...I use dunlops 208 gp. Awesome tire, pretty soft, and usually easy to find

Not to bad of a price, the biggest thing you will want to find out, is of second gear is going out. Don't sweat the tires, there is still plenty of selection.

Plenty of selection? What are you talking about? I have come across only two tires available for a 16" wheel. M3s and Qualifiers.

And I wouldn't pay anymore than 2K for a 15 year old bike. Talk em down. Its winter!

OK so I got an update on the bike.

front end rebuilt 4x6 racing....here in Illinois. Race Tek springs and seals.

something about the top triple tree clamp was wrong and it was replaced??

Brakes done with new fluids ...this spring.

original asking price was $3500

and the diablo's. Not a huge selection, true, but still a selection. I wouldn't make it a deciding factor, if that's the only draw back.

I just did some online hunting and even found Michelins.

and Avons

so this doesn't sound too limiting.

Another option is getting the front wheel from a CBR600F3 or post-93 model VFR750F. They are 17" and will fit in place of the stock 16" wheel on the 900RR. The hard part is color matching the white. No F3's that I know of came with white wheels, but possibly the VFR, which fits from 94-97. I'm actually in the middle of this process right now but it remains an incredibly long and annoying story that still hasn't come to an end. Hopefully I'll have good news soon...
