My 1996 Honda CBR900RR FireBlade (RRT)
There's my baby, my first bike. She was almost-OEM when I bought her (rear fender/license plate holder was shortened and aftermarket indicators, smaller than oem). I wanted a bike I could work on/upgrade/modernize myself, without straying too far from the original design. She's an absolute blast/beast to ride (for me at least) & pulls hard. It's tempting to ride her hard (& maybe get myself killed in the process), so I resist that urge daily.
She turns A LOT of heads, even from guys on high-tech, expensive crotch rockets. I haven't had her repainted (she's got wear marks, light scratches, some chipped paint here & there), because it's a hassle finding good decals. I bought a set, but not all the colors match. I may just give her a completely new graphics scheme someday.
So what have I done so far to upgrade & modernize her? Over the course of a bit more than 1 year:
- Full VooDoo Performance exhaust. I didn't go with a Akrapovic or Yoshimura etc because I love the deep, throaty sound this bike makes and this system just emphasizes that and looks great while doing it. When it needs to "scream", at high rpm, it does. I don't like loud pipes in general.
- Factory Pro jet kit, airbox mod & 4 degrees ignition advance. Still tinkering with jet sizes...fine tuning...currently #128 Keihin mains, #42 pilot jets
- Spiegler steel braided brake lines front & rear, EBC sintered brake pads
- Motoforza rear fender
- Harris black/silver "CBR" handlebar grips
- Vortex short adjustable clutch & brake levers
- Dark smoke windscreen
- Illumiglo gauge cluster. Thinking of adding LED to replace oem cluster backlighting.
- Reshaped & re-upholstered seats...I got tired of my private parts being crushed against the fuel tank.
- Dynavolt gel battery, aftermarket r/r & stator. After a second dead battery I discovered the oem r/r was fried and so was the stator.
- LED headlight bulbs
- Aftermarket performance radiator w/2 bar radiator cap & twin cooling fans
- Vortex front & rear sprockets (oem ratio)
- EBC performance clutch kit
...
Future additions: radial steering damper & 17" front wheel maybe
That's us then, in a nutshell...for now...I think 🤔
