Improve your riding skill is the number 1 way to make your bike faster. Unless you just mean top end speed while going in a straight line.

K&N Air Filter, full system exhaust if you can find one, port and polish intake/exhaust, more aggressive cams, Lighter Marchesini wheels, hit the gym so you are lighter, and if you do anything to the motor realise you'll have to re-jet your carbs. That'll add up to a very decent HP gain.

Default Faster

Define Faster.

Acceleration from a stop, change your sprockets you lose topend. Looking for all out speed on the highway change your sprockets the otherway you then will lose acceleration. these changes are pretty cheap and are easy to do yourself.

Installing airfilter, jets and full race exhaust can be quite costly and depending who is doing the work would cost as much as a trade up to a newer bike. Don't get me wrong i love my RR and wouldn't trade it for a newer bike.

I have a 96' 900RR that was completely stock. I added a Barnett racing clutch, factory Pro Jet (kit 118- 128 main jets in kit), D&D full race exhaust, BMC Race Air Filter, Factory Pro Ignition Advancer +4, -1 +2 sprockets.
With everything listed above my 900 was a completely different machine however i had to still order the next size pilot jets and purchase main jets in sequence to 135, I still need to go up in a size or two according to my WOT tests. With all these mods this bike screams, I now have problems keeping the front wheel on the ground. i am still tuning because we are just getting into the warm weather andwant to make sure i go too much that it runs crapy in hot weather so a bit more fine tuning and I'll be happy. The point is that if i had to pay for someone to install and properly setup my machine it would have cost way more then getting a bike in the 1k to 1.1k range.

Total investment in a 96' 900RR Bike $3900 Parts about $2200 Smile on riders face when you crack the throttle .............. PRICELESS!

K&N's r junk!! Porting yes, polishing maybe not. Need a good head guy with flow bench 2 tell u. Sometimes polishing a head actually decreases power!

I think the after market filters are missunderstood. when i did mine my bike just was running like CR?x so i added more fuel between the filter and the exhaust i went from 115 mains to 135 mains, I know the filters make a difference because when i did just the jet kit i was only able to go up to 122 mains before it choked out at WOT.

Porting and polishing can be very expensive and is by all means not recommended by anyone who has a track record of being successful at doing so. Besides all the porting jetting and mods will be way more than getting a new machine. I'm still waiting to see the reply as to what he is really looking for. Hell isn't 175 mph fast enough
