Ever consider just getting a newer bike?

I bet it will be 15k...even for the first production run of only 1000 units. Germany is serious about taking on Japan, and it is true they have copied mechanical layouts to do it, but it will still be unique. Traction control, for one. Not at all like just another R1 or GSXR or CBR...
IMO it is apples and oranges comparing BMW cars to BMW motorcycles (or especially lumping in Mercs with Bimmers, peas not in a pod lol). Like I said, I have not been a fan of two-wheeled Beemer style in the past, but at least they´re finally entering a market that I am enthusiastic about.
Plus their entry into SBK makes the whole exercise worthwhile right there.

RE: Ever consider just getting a newer bike?
Thanks for the compliments RR and MT, I plan on hanging on to the oldie a little while longer.
As for the BMW, I am just really happy to see that they are putting efforts into the Sportbike genre. I can't think of any of their bikes that has inspired me prior to this one.
I also just received the new Motorcyclist magazine with the Ducati 1198S review in it. WOW!! Another new bike that I can't afford but would love to have!

RE: Ever consider just getting a newer bike?
Basically I don't really have any break down issue that will makes me to part off with her but I will get a newer one when my financial situation permits. Of course the 900 is the best bike I had used so far but hey a newer modern bike will always be tempting.

RE: Ever consider just getting a newer bike?
I've had my 900RR for nearly 17 years and would not think of selling it. Between NOS, used and non-OEM parts, I've been able to find nearly everything I need.
If I can keep my 1974 Yamaha RD350 running well I sure can keep the 900RR running for a few more years...
As for bike lust, while I will keep the 900RR, every few years I get another "mistress", my current one being a Ducati 848
Cheers...

RE: Ever consider just getting a newer bike?
I appreciate the info everyone, sadly I have to sell her. [&o]
We have a sick family member and need money to pay for an emergency operation.
Just don't wanna risk something else going wrong with my bike.
Right now it's being sold for just over $3,000, we'll see if I get any offers.
If no one buys it I will keep it and take a chance it'll keep running for a while longer.
Thanks for all of the great advice and friendship over the years! This site rocks!
