Now that's a pretty familiar sight! I'm guessing if you don't let those sit for 1.5 decades with turn of the century fuel inside morphing into who knows what, chances are you won't need 21st century cleaning devices to keep them operational. :)

Yeh , they were pretty dirty, their from a Honda CBX750 1985, this is how they looked before and after

What a transformation! Is this part of a restoration project?

It sure is satisfying taking well used (and sometimes hopeless looking) bits and making them look (and work) as new. In my case, I've got the 'as new' looking part down. Now, they just need to work...

Yes I've done a few , like to get a bike no one wants and try to give it life again, now I'm retired have plenty of time:)

A shame you don't live down the street... appears I could use some experienced help!

There is a wealth of knowledge on here, and eventually it will come to a conclusion and your bike will be running:)

I am now a believer in ultrasonic cleaners. I haven't gotten the carbs back together and tried them yet, but what came out of my "spotless and pristine" carbs was staggering. Here's the start of first cleaning cycle (and the clear cleaning liquid).

IMMEDIATELY streams of 'stuff' started emanating from them. Also this thing is *really* loud, with high frequencies that rattle your brain. (It sounds like a Tesla coil.) Note the electrical arc like patterns in the water... kind of cool to watch (until the sound drives you away.)

And the liquid following several 30 minute cleaning cycles:

Strangely, there was this black, almost soot like material in the waste liquid. Where was all this hiding after I did my supposedly thorough soak in carb cleaner and blow through with compressed air? I was almost willing to bet the liquid would still be clear after cleaning (since I thought it must be spotless inside after my repeated cleanings.)

Did it get the offending debris causing the carbs to essentially not work? Once again... fingers crossed..

At least this time matey you start with a fighting chance, fingers crossed:)

That looks encouraging. I suspect you might have a different experience when you get them put back together.

Almost ready for the moment of truth...

Notice what I have left to do... I didn't think I had the mental strength to deal with those tonight, so I'm waiting until a good night sleep. (If you've ever split your carbs, you know where those go. If you haven't, suffice it to say reinstalling those little springs is the most fun part of the job. :)
