Motley, OK so I got around to finding my OEM seat. things get lost when you move and I had to find the right box. I put it on and looks like I have the same gap as you. so that must be the correct fit from Honda. looked at a few pics of other bikes and that same gap shows. have had the Corbin on pretty much since new so guess I hadn't noticed it on other bikes until you pointed it out.

so good news is your subframe probably not tweaked.

Splash.... thank you very much for checking. For some reason I didn't think my original 96 I bought new had a poor fitting seat but I think age has something to do with memory. I got it to fit a little better than the original pictures but I may be out of options.

My job is running a group that does the body fits on full size GM pickups so gaps that are bad looking kind of rub me the wrong way.

Thanks again for installing your original seat and letting me know how it came out.

Nick

if you don't use the passenger seat all that much.. throw a solo seat on.. it snugs down right next to the bottom panel close or at least mine does.. and you can find them used and painted for probably around 50..

Finally have it figured out

I finally got the seat to sit flat on both stops on either side of the latch. I ended up bending the latch lever down so it pulls the seat down properly. This overcomes the tendency for the right side of the seat to spring up due to the opening spring attached the right side hinge. I also modified a 98-99 seat brkt to allow the seat to move rearward 4-5MM. As soon as I get my new brkts for the frankenstein bolts ( I had bent and banged on the original ones so much trying to get things to fit better that I don't know where they are supposed to be) I'll put everything back together and post up some pictures.

DAMN.... this was pissing me off.. (see the pix in the 1st post)

I've got about some photos in the gallery listed under "My 96 900RR Project". It is on the 3rd page of the gallery photos.

I'll have my new brackets in a cpl. days and will then have the tail section back together and get some new shots.

OK... finally got it all back together and the rear seat finally fits. It may not look like much but it was bugging the hell out of me. You could damn near reach into the back of the trunk with the seat closed... NOT GOOD!!

Original fit when I redid the bike...

Fit after bending the striker on the seat and the latch rod to pull things down tighter and eliminate the kickup on the R/S rear of the seat due to the opening spring on the right front..

98-98 subframe is different (longer arms for attachment). the rear seat hinge is different from 94 to 95. bolt holes are in different location thats why the seat looks all messed up

Does anybody know if the battery tray is the same for all years? I recently picked up a 100% bone stock 99 with only 3200 miles. I think the big plate holder out back looks silly but cant make myself cut it up. rather just find one already trimed and save mine.

I checked a couple of catalogs and the same part number is listed for a 96 and a 99. I have a cut fender from a 96 that I'd sell. PM me if you are interested.
