CBR 900 - Aftermarket clip-ons?
Hey guys,
Im kinda new around here although I do frequent a few other bike related forums.
Im from Melbourne, Australia and ride a 98 900RR. Hi!
I've got a quick question for all,
Im looking at some aftermarket clip-ons for the street-bike 900. Vortex, Woodcraft etc.
Are there any issues with bar height, installation, instruments, clearance?
Also has anyone used the GSXR600 03-04 clip-ons on their CBR 900, I know its an odd combination but they have the same diameter (45mm)
Thanks in advance,
Rob

RE: CBR 900 - Aftermarket clip-ons?
I just installed a set of woodcraft clip-ons on my 93 900rr a couple of weeks ago. I loved the bar position, but the clutch perch and lever hit the speedo. I had to set them so high to clear it, that I removed the clip-ons after 80 miles. If it were stricktly a trackbike, I would have gotten rid of the speedo, but she is on the street most of the time.

Same Zook fork opening diameter, but unlikely to have the little hump that locks into the top triple (maybe 98-99 doesn't have that anyway...), and probably not the same diameter as the bar itself--where all the switchgear and what-nots clasp on.
Still might work...but I've had decent luck with sourcing good quality used OEM bars. Took a little while but lots cheaper than aftermarket and no fitment hassles. I've seen a number of reputable sellers from Oz.
Good luck mate!

RE: CBR 900 - Aftermarket clip-ons?
I had some nice fully adjustable clip-ons on my FZ, by Vortex, and by the time I found a position that was comfortable I had to literally take out the whole dashboard, cut it up and put the clocks back in the hole without the idiot lights, so I could get some steering lock without interference. In the end I mounted them (idiot lights) low in the fairing. Good job the bike was super reliable..
Yes it was well worth the effort, I ended up with a bike that fit like a glove (no mean feat for a 220lb 6'2" guy on a superlite 600).
I am going to lower the stockers on my RR, I think, but for now I am just getting the hang of weilding a big fat 100plus HP bike as it is. Ok, so I lowered the fork in the yoke and have been playing with the damping screws for fun, and getting the controls in a place that is natural and comfortable..
