Default Bodywork Compatability

Hi All:

Just picked up a '96 that needs a lot of TLC. It was used as a track bike and what little bodywork remains has been pretty mangled.

Is bodywork from 1993 compatible? I'm not a purist in terms of color but I'd like to improve it's looks and have a chance to get my hands on (what I think is) some aftermarket pieces. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Don't take what I say here as being right. I'm just trying to see what the difference might be. The 1993 is on the left and 1996 on the right. The rear tail subframe is definitely different. Doesn't mean that the exterior fairings wouldn't mount, but it seems there were some significant changes done to the frame. Also, 3rd party makers seem to differentiate years before 1996 from 1996 and later. Hopefully someone on here will chime in with more definitive answer.

Thanks for posting those pics, interesting differences. It also looks like the aft part of the main frame is bit different, as well.

I guess I'm mainly interested if the upper cowl's are interchangeable. Anyone?

My guess is they are not a direct swap. They are different generations so I would think there would be some fitment differences. Having said that, not too many things are impossible depending on how much $$ and skill you have. I've seen some really good fabrications on this forum.
