Default 98 900RR in the Werks

I bought amiss treated98 900rr last winter for the unbelivably decent frame and a 17k motor was still as strong as ever. So i toredown thru away n rebuilt her to top running head turning condition... Now is where is like some opinions from the forum
I cant leave well enough alone started doing a frame polish (steps from this forum thanks!) and the top side runs came out beutiful how ever the up and down portions from your knees down came out glass smooth but nowhere near blingn like the rest..Why?
Im getting ready to venture to the swingarm my buddy says i should do the entire swingarm to achieve a non halfassed finished product but he rides a harley and cant see his from the oil so i say the sides and the tops of everything leave the bottom and inside alone what do you think?

your bike looks great, I do polishing and i recommend having the swingarm chromed. this will save you the headache of the excessive cleaning that will be required from the weather and road and chain oil. if you insist on polishing i can give you some tips.

I have polished my frame too and the horizontal rails look better because they have the "grain" running horizontal. The section you speak of has a vertical grain and depending on which way your sanding strokes went you may have gone against that grain and that will leave you with a hazy look. This makes a difference too because depending at what angle you look at polished aluminum it will appear more or less shiny. THis is based on the direction you sanded as well. Also, the central section of the fram that the swingarm mounts to was cast as apposed to the horizontal rails which are extruded. This means there is a difference in the molecular architecture of the aluminum so these two areas will probably never look the same. Extruded aluminum has a very parrallel grain that is easier to sand and looks better when polished. The best advice I can give you is make it look as good as you can and then enjoy it because the shine doesn't last long and even cleaning with a soft rag and excellent polish will leave micro scratches that will dull the finish. As for the swing arm I polished all the outward facing surfaces. Then I painted all areas facing the tire with the rubberized paint that you can find in most auto stores. This makes the job much easier, and cleanup is fast. If you polish the whole thing it will be a bitch to keep clean and road debris will ruin your work near the tire. I would not use chrome because it has a limited life span and its money you don't need to spend when you can do 1,2,3 polish job and have beautiful results. Chrome will also make the rest of your polished areas look dull. Nice job and my hats off to a fellow elbow greaser, doing it yourself is the only way.
