Default 96 900rr engine swap/rebuild

hello, first time here. i would like to know if the engine removing tool (lock nut wrench 07hma-mr70200), is a special tool just for this application or is it a tool that i can purchase from an auto store? and what other engine years will fit my 1996 cbr 900rr. the current one has almost 70K very hard miles and in need of rebuilding. i would like to put a piston kit and do other egine mods. any suggestions for a hot street bike? thanks for your responses.

I searched everywhere I could drive to and found nothing that would work for the lock nut on the swingarm pivot bolt. I would guess the cheapest option is to find a deep socket big enough to go over the nut and use a grinder wheel thingy to cut out the right profile. I never tried Honda for the real tool but I'm sure it would not be cheap. I've never swapped engines but if I were in the market I would stick with a 96 or 97, they're 919s I think, whereas my 93 is an 893. I know the frames and engines of all 900s (93-99) are quite similar but they're most usually grouped thusly: 93-94, 95, 96-97, 98-99. Chances are good you could put a fresh 99 in your 96, but I can't say for sure. For example, when I changed my swingarm to a 97, I picked up a 97 axle bolt with spacers just in case and sure enough, the wheel didn't fit back in until I used the newer spacers (about 1mm different, WTF!). So I would try to keep within the 96-97 bracket as much as possible. Engines on ebay start around $500 up to $1000 for premium clean.

ive got a 95 900 and put a motor out of a 97 in mine with no problems. didnt buy any special tools or anything. unbolted everything and dropped it right out the bottom and put the new one on a jack and lifted it into place and bolted everything back up. only tool i had to go out and buy was a 12mm allen wrench and thats only because my set of allens stopped at 10mm.

Can you possibly put a fuel injected motor in the early models??? But I kind of find putting a 07 cbr1000rr motor in the 900rr better idea if it'll fit ofcourse.
