95 CBR900RR Carb Cleaning
 

Hello, I recently acquired a 95 900RR that has sat for between 15 and 20 years. I am going thru the bike trying to get it back non the road and I am up to carb cleaning. I am very mechanically inclined but I have never done any carb work. Is ther a good tutorial somewhere that will help me in my process. Also where is a good place to buy a rebuild kit. My bike already has stage 3 jets in it because it has Erion Race cams and a full Sato exhaust with header.

I’ve also just got a ‘95 bike which has been sat for 14 years and also needs the same work as yours I imagine!

There’s quite a few videos on YouTube of general carb work and a few for the 900RR - “lamb chop rides” has done a few I’ve seen. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter which video you watch, as long as you note down exactly what the current settings are (number of turns out) for each screw or anything adjustable and you should be okay. I’d probably also recommend a fuel tank cleanup - mines pretty rusty inside.

I ended up buying an oem kit from Honda and did the carbs this past week. It was really easy but the carbs were very dirty and gummed up with varnished fuel. I used Chem Dip carb cleaner used brushes in all the ports to clean out the gunk. Then I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I used hot soapy water and let them run for 20 min. They were very clean after. I reused all the jets once they were clean. The bike fired right up with almost no hesitation. Pretty impressive for 15 years of sitting. I did just gravity feel the fuel in to test. I have a new fuel pump to install when putting everything back together.

Amazing! I’ve bought a rebuild kit, but haven’t started yet as it’s so cold outside here and my garage doesn’t have heating.

Hey, good job! You did thorough job with scrubbing and ultrasonic soaking. Most people just spritz through some non-effective spray "carb cleaners" and think that carbs are "clean". AHhhahahhahah! Restoring carbs aren't easy by any means! :)
