900RR Electrical help needed

Hello all,
So I got friend's 900rr in my garage, it's very simplified, all plastics put away, just a simple headlight, few switches and that's it...
So, I'm having a trouble getting a spark on any plug.
Things checked:
Plugs, both coils, primary+secondary ok
Pulse Generator seems OK, throttle sensor in good resistance range
The issue is: there is no ignition key, clutch sensor, or neutral sensor, no instruments cluster, there is not much left of original wiring, all non essential engine/ECU things are cut out.
My thought is that the ECU does not fire, can someone help me get this straight, and tell me which wires I should ground, or connect to themselves?
I work with bikes electrics some time but I can't figure this out.
Help will be much appreciated

Hi, what year is your bike:icon_wink:
Sorry I see you have TPS

Tomcatex 07-12-2018 05:45 AM

Should be '96, but not sure of that

CaBaRet 07-12-2018 07:54 AM

Yes matey ,its at least a 96 with having the TPS , so would have to have the clutch switch and side stand switch bypassing , does it have a kill switch?

Tomcatex 07-13-2018 12:38 PM

No, no killswitch.
Only one main switch powering lights, two switches for blinkers, brake light switches, high beam switch and starter button. Everything else is cut out.
I learned that I need a 9V on pink wire, so I'm connecting Zener diode in the ignition key housing too.
Still no spark :(

Hi , dont think you have the pink wire on your year, unless its a later USA Ecu and wiring harness , what wire colours are coming out of the ignition switch?

This should help

Yes matey ,looks like you have the USA ignition and diode ,not European, so you will have to move forward with the USA workshop manual the diode is in the ignition so you wont need another , what voltage do you have on the Pink wire with the ignition on,only trouble is the Pink wire diode didnt come in till 98
Edit ; checked your wires in to the ICM its definitely a 98-99 wiring harness (13 wires into the ICM)European Spec

Thanks mate.
Did the wiring today, using wiring diagram from Honda service manual, using '97 US and later.
Fires now like a beast. However I do have a measurement on pink wire(ignition ZD) about 10.3-10.4V, I read on the forum here that 9V is nominal, should I be worried? :)

Not at all matey, seems that the European spec 98-99 is slightly different from the USA ,whereas they use the diode at 9vdc to arm the ECU, if it wasn't right it wouldn't fire, but at least you have a later bike than you thought you had:icon_lol:
Edit: That 9v can fluctuate to 10.5 v
