Default 900 vs 954

i have a really simple question, i own a 900 is the 954 that much more of an improvement for me to take that step up?
i know already the obvious things carb vs. F I and the bigger motor.
i guess what i'm really asking is it worth switching to a new unfamilar bike?
i know its a different ride with F I bikes
also i'm down 1 up front
appreciate all the feed back in advance

Maybe you would get a better response from the guys in the 954 forum that won 954's, lol. Just a suggestion. Most of the people looking at this post only have 900's and know nothing of 954's, such as myself.

Having owned the 900RR and ridden a friends 954 plenty......it wasn't worth it to me personally. My 99 900 could hold off his 954 through 4th gear after I regeard my 900 and that was from a roll on so.....it took rider ability or lack there of out of the equation. His bike was nice for sure, but I didnt like it's tendancy to head shake (although a steering damper would have fixed that) and the seat was horrible at best. It was small feeling though, the bars are very close to the seat. Not a bad bike, but for me it wasn't enough of a jump in performance to warrant the money spent. I now own a GSX-R 1000 (02) and THAT was worth the jump. I'm sure people that own 954's will swear by them so it's a matter of what you want out of a bike. The availability of good 16" tires is coming to an end (and that was part of the reason I up graded) so in that respect a 954 would be nicer........otherwise, see if you can ride one and decide for yourself.

Good luck.

my biggest reason for wanting a 954 is for the fuel injection and the 20 or so extra horses. but if there that close i might just keep tweeking my 900 and just get me a newer bike for my 2nd. thanks for the feed back guys!
really quick for those who have 2 bikes do yiou tend to heglect one over the other? i mean i don't wanna join the multi bike club if my 900 is gonna collect dust! way to much respect for my old gal to do that to her...lol

FI is nice.......but they come with thier own set of pit falls. Everything is electronic.....working on them is much more labor intensive than on an old school carb bike. It's like a new car........the older ones are much easier to work on yourself.........
It's hard to beat a good set of properly calibrated carbs. Those 20 horses mean more on paper than on the road. Esp when the road/track starts twisting and winding. I personally don't own two, but the people I know that do, neglect one eventually. If it's a different style of bike that probably isnt a problem, such as Motard/Supersport bike, then you change stuff up a bit and they serve a different purpose.

I've ridden a 954rr and wasn't impressed so much by it's power than by it's handling. It's like comparing a golf cart to a pro go cart. I love my 900rr but the 954rr was much more my size. Thus I could slam though turns at speeds I wouldn't even think of on my 900rr. Back to the power... I couldn't notice a big difference between the two and their 20hp difference. My 900rr is regeared, piped and jetted and that's probably why. The next bike I am going to buy will be the 1000rr. If I was you I would jump to that bike. Used prices aren't too high and they're a wild ride!

As for multi-bike owning.... I have four. The more the merrier!

I wait for the day when I can choose a bike that matches that day's attire. I envy you guys with more than one bike. Mine's down being painted at the moment.
