Default 1999 cbr900rr front brakes (something isn't right)

So I've been lurking here for about a year when I need to look up some information on my 1999 cbr900rr. Seems like a nice place to ask question that I just can't seem to figure out.

So I bought this 99 a year ago, my first bike. I've been slowly undoing some of the previous owners "red neck fixes" or just dumb swaps. I'm now at the rims and brakes. Apparently they are not OEM for this year bike. I'm just trying to figure out what is suppose to be on this bike and what I can do with what I have to maybe fix the problem. I realized my problem when I pulled the brake pads and realized they aren't sitting on the rotor where they are suppose to be. the top of the pad is brand new and doesn't touch the rotor. below is the things I've figured out so far. any help clearing this up is greatly appreciated.

-The bike is a 99
-The rims are OEM Honda (correct size for 99 F16x3.5, R17x5.5)
-Front Brake rotors are 296mm (which i now know is not correct. the brake pads wore only the bottom half of the pad the top was still brand new not even touching the rotor.
-as far as I know the brake calipers are original. they sit where a 310mm rotor would work perfect.
-bought OEM front rotors from a 98 and tried to bolt them on to the rims. Holes do not line up, rim hole pattern is smaller, about half a hole off
-the offset of the 98 rotors I bought is different than the ones on the bike. The OEM 98 were much deeper.
-I fit the 98 rotor on my rim and the rotor is too wide to fit between the forks and into the calipers.

So my conclusion is that the rims and rotors on my bike when I bought it are from a different year, or something. The rim/ rotor spacing is different that what is suppose to be on my 99.

I want to put it back to OEM or equivalent size parts at least. I'm not against aftermarket parts as long as its for a 99 (i assume 98 shares the same brakes from what I've read)

I haven't found a good list of what rims are the same as what and what brakes are the same as what. I know the information is out there is chunks I just can't wrap my head around it without some help.

I've been searching for front rims from a 98 or 99 with no luck. I read that rims from other bikes are interchangeable but it wasn't referring to a 99 so I couldn't assume anything.

Thanks in advance.

If it helps I can post photos.

A popular swap on the Fireblade was the front wheel, changing it out to a 17'' rim, this would give a much wider choice of front tyre.

I'm not sure what model the donor bike would be, but my old 97 had a 17'' rim and it matched the rear wheel perfectly and looked completely stock
and used the stock rotors and calipers.

It might help if you widen your search, to include a 17'' rim.

The 1998 and 1999 CBR900RR front wheels are the same, based on Honda's fitment section of the parts microfiche.

Yeah. From what I've read 98 and 99 interchangable. I don't believe the rims on this bike are of those years. It has a 296mm rotor and an OEM 310 won't fit it.

I'd like to know what other bikes have the same front wheel. Otherwise I'm stuck looking for only a 98 or 99 front wheel.

So I've been looking and I believe I can swap to a 17 by way of a 96-98 CBR600F3 front wheel.

But honestly I'd be happy just keep the 16 and getting the correct rims for this bike. I just believe someone grabbed a 96-97 set of rims and just threw them on or something. I'll keep looking for a 98-99 900rr front wheel.

@xpbr2000 Are you familiar with creating a "Saved" search on ebay? It will send you an email if something pops up matching your search criteria. The following search should get you just wheels.

Don't include the quotes.
"1999 cbr900rr front wheel -bearing -slider -tool -seals -bearings -sliders"

Yes, they are exclusions. You probably don't want to be notified every time someone posts about selling a wheel bearing... lol.
