Default A "What if" scenario... You be the judge!

How long does it take before engine knocking due to low octane can ruin a CBR600rr engine? Yes, I realize there are as many octane threads open as there are stars in the universe, but this question isn't about what octane to use, it's more based around a "what if" scenario, and I think one that will be pretty interesting to hear from the community here. So here's the scenario. Let's use the 2007-08 Model CBR since that's when the manual started stating 91 OCtane PON, and people tend to use 87.

This CBR600rr is used as a daily. The driver fills up with 87 for 2 full tanks, then on the third tank uses 91. (Why the 2 fill ups with 87, then 91, doesn't matter it's just the scenario, go with it!)

Now assuming this rider follows the same fill up routine, and the bike is relatively new (we'll say the mileage is within the range of 2000-6000 so fairly new) and has been serviced regularly using Mobil 1 synthetic, How long do you think (in theory) it would take for this bike to start receiving engine "damage" from "detonation" caused by lower octane fuel?

Let's hear some intelligent answers! This'll be fun, cmon!

Never. Why you ask. The 07+ models the computer will adjust the timing so it doesn't knock/predetonate and there causing no harm to the motor

Was just wondering really! Does that timing always work? Would there be a worse effect on CBR 06's? Really just curious as to how long it would take for engine damage from "detonation" due to using "non recommended" octane fuel.

I would say it will work damn fast since computers are fast as chit.

As far as how long it would take. Way to many variables in the what if game. If your lookin for fun abandon this POS thread an go to the motorcycle fun game in sights n sounds. Thank you

On 07+ there will never be damage. On 03-06's theres too many variables to make any rational guess.
