Weatherproofing
 

My 05 CBR600rr has a gap between the seat and the rear fairing, I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for weatherproofing since my battery and important wires sit below the seat. I'd like to have more protection against water as we get into the rainy months in Florida. Is this how this generation was designed and all of the connections are able to take a little water? I doubt that gap is normal, on my 900 there is no gap at all.

Are you sure that is the correct seat for your model of bike?

Aftermarket fairings??
Wrong or modified seat??

This is what I was given with the bike, my guess is an aftermarket seat. I believe the fairings are stock, it has the tribal graphics which was an option at the time.

They make stock looking faring kits. The aftermarket Chinese ones rarely line up perfectly and are made from completely different types of plastic. It's pretty obvious if you've seen both.

But I would be comparing your seat with other stock ones and see if they match.

Could someone identify the year of this seat then?

It's probably the correct seat pan, but it looks like a crappy recover job with some foam reshaping.

The vinyl covering looks decidedly un-oem.

As a stop-gap, to just solve your immediate problem, I'd be looking at some rubber sealing strip, like you get around the trunk of your car. It might just slide onto the plastic fairing and provide some protection while you can find a permanent solution.

Interestingly the numbers on the bottom of you seat do not match the numbers on this one here :-

Thats not a part number, it's a manufacturer number. But the MEE code does put that it was made for that line of bikes.
