Normal. The bike's operating temp... meaning the thermostat starts to open up I believe around the high 170's. The fan kicks on just below 220.

Yes, if you pay attention you'll hear the fans kick on at 220ºF. It will cool down once you get moving but with stop and go traffic my girl is always around 210 and up. SHE'S HOTTT! :D

I wanted to add a question - when you first start it up in the morning what is the temperature we should wait for before taking off?

From the dealership I heard the same thing as posted above like if u have frequent stop or slow speed it wont be getting enough air to cool and thus will be really hot...but like on freeways and on little constant speeds it should really cool down.

If it makes you feel better my friends R1 in traffic gets so efin hot ...but thats the only thing he doesn like it getting so hot...

Other than that just enjoy your new bike I swear since the day I bought it I have been juss riding it and dreaming about it day n night haahahhahaah....

Enjoy Safe driving...

I personally wait till my bike reaches 120ºF before kicking it in 1st, about a 5 min wait. I've heard that as soon as a temperature comes on the speedo ur good to go, i think its 97ºF, but I play it safe....

I wait until about 140F and don't get on it hard until about 170ish.

Yeah, low speeds doesn't cool the engine, so it will always run a bit hot, especially in these summer days. Get on the highway, and it usually runs between 165-180. In city traffic, I usually run about 190-200. It's when I come to a stop light that it surges to almost 225. But when the fan kicks in right when the guage turns to 220, it usually stays there.

RE: temp question

My bike gets over 220 at lights. I hit 235 once and was getting ready to shut it off when the light turned greened and I was able to cool it down (240 is engine damage according to the manual). I turn it off if I see her hitting 230 at a couple of lights that I know are unusually long, about 5-6minutes long but there are only 2 or 3 of those lights in my area. The fan doesn't seem to work that well at idle. Sometimes it will stay around mid 220's and sometimes it will just steadily climb. I don't know if my bike is supposed to do this or not. You guys seem to be running a bit cooler than me.
