Swaping 05 600 RR stock forks on to an 04 600RR
Beside the obvious parts involved. What are the mechanical and engineering disruptions involved in doing such a modification. If any? What are the ups and downs involved with doing this? And are there any other advantages to this swap than the lighter unsprung weight?

Could it be done? I'm sure it could with enough engineering, money, and time.
Should it be done? That's probably the question that should be asked.
To accomodate the USD forks, frame and various design changes were made. How do you think your bike will behave without those changes?? I don't know the definitive answer on that but I wouldn't be surprised if it handles worse. For years, Honda didn't go with USD forks because it made it too stiff with the current chassis.
Just becuase its USD forks doesn't make it better. You need to get the bigger picture. If you want a better suspension, just upgrade your internals.

An inverted fork.... in simple terms, the inner tube (chrome plated part) is the heaviest. The outer tube (dull/matte grey part on 03-04 or gold on the 05) weighs less. By inverting the forks, the center of gravity is lowered and you have less weight on top of the forks to compress down. I’m sure Moto GP racers need every edge they can find, but I doubt if this seriously changes to handling for the everyday rider.

I see what you guys are saying. That theres really no need to do the swap, except for, the CGS factor ( Cool guy ****) , or if you're racing it. And that would be the most pracitcal use. Now in responce to CMHGUY, the difference is; say you are driving down the road and you hit a bump. Being that the 05 fork are inverted there is less weight being thrown upward thus the springs dont have to manage all that unsprung weight. Plus your tire will return to the road faster thus giving you better control over your bike. At least thats my understanding of physics involved.

Here's a list from another forum of what parts will and will not swap:
