Default stock tires suck

Am I the only one who doesn't trust the stock tires? I ride an '05 rr, and I have noticed the rear tire gets loose on me. I have been working on those lovely chicken strips on the edge of my tires, but every time I get into the turn, I feel the rear end get loose. Makes me not want to push it. Anyone else get this with their stock Sportmax tires? Just wondering if I am being paranoid, or if it is a common thing with the stockers.

i'm guessing you're speaking of the 208's? they're not the most sticky tires but they're pretty decent. i felt them come loose on me a few times when i had 'em too.

208s are good tires. Not the best, but they are a happy medium between longevity, grip, and wet weather traction. I feel ok-confident with them. I wont push them a lot but they stick just fine.

Have you jacked with your suspension at all? How's your tire pressure? How many miles on the stockers?

Why not? I've used the 208's on the track and ride a hell of alot harder than a LARGE portion of people on the street could ever hope for and they stick pretty damn well for a street tire. I have to get sloppy or over eager with the throttle exiting corners before they let go and the front has never even hinted at letting go. That's dragging everything except body work on the ground. I think he's paranoid or the roads are dirtier than you think by looking at them at 60mph or as you stated, the supsension is not set right or low pressure. Good calls on that stuff, that'll mess with a tire bad.

The 208's are/were awesome tires. Never had any slipping with them. If your back end is slipping, then you're not accelerating hard enough through the turn. Keep a 60/40 weight ratio back/front. It'll grip then.

Here's what I did with my stock 208's...no major slippage that I recall (other than what I made happen).

I should clarify, it doesnt happen every time. The tires have about 2200 miles on them. Suspension is stock. This is not my first bike, but I admit I am no expert. I will have to look at those other factors listed. Will work on my skills. And yes I know, get the suspension set up. I am clueless when it comes to suspension. Thanks for the input. It tells me that it's me, and not the tires.
