Sprocket Change

Ive done some searching on this site and have read a few posts saying that if i change my sprockets to -1 on the front and +2 on the back that it will give me more acceleration. for the people that have done this, is it a significant difference?? I really want more kick out of my bike and thought this would be a good winter mod to do. how many teeth are on the stock front/rear sprockets?? if i change them will i have to get a new chain as well?? This is all new to me, i was wondering if anyone knows a site where i can maybe get the whole kit???
thanks.

Mine is a '04 600RR, I believe it is 16 front, 43 rear. I changed mine with the stock gearing the sameto a 520 chain with hardened aluminum sprockets by Driven, all black ;)of course... changing to a lighter chain/sprocket would give you a small boost as well since it's less rotational mass and will give you more hp at the wheel...

Full kits at motomummy.com ... http://www.motomummy.com/store/home.php?cat=270

I had the -1/+2 on my F4i, didn't really care for it much but I do alot of highway so I like the top end and the bike accels good enough for me.

anyone else thats done this wanna chime in with some info??? i did some searching on the internet and i only managed to find one site and it said the 07's have 16 teeth up front and 42 in the rear. Can anyone confirm this, as my bike is in storage 2 hours away from me. and again, is there significant diff in acceleration, just wondering if the diff is worth the money..

motomummy has it right, according to the '08 owner's manual (which is similar to the '07), 16 front, 42 rear.

I'm also interested in the acceleration aspect. How much of a difference is it? And how much top end do you really lose with a -1/+2 setup?

One cool site. I could play around all day on this. I'm gonna try to test it out next time I ride, but do you know how accurate this is? Also, it doesn't say much about acceleration gains/losses.

The difference is very noticeable on my '05. The bike pulls much harder than stock. Main problem is your speedo is going to read high (~15% higher) and cruising on the highway will put you around 7-8k in 6th gear. But for around town is great

You can use your stock chain as long as you buy 525 sprockets. Most aftermarket kits are made for a 520 chain (stock is 525).

The bike feels stronger with the stock gearing, bc with the new sprockets it tachs up much faster and you don't feel the same rush... i guess thats how I would describe it. But certainly is faster with the new gearing

Also, for the cost of two sprockets, I'd say it's the best bang for your buck. You can buy a front sprocket for ~$20 (get a 15tooth) and a rear for around ~$50 (buy a 43, 44, or 45).

Probably just a 15tooth front sprocket would make you happy. So for $20 and 15mins of your time to swap it out it's the best money you can spend to accel quicker.
