Default Rear-wheel lock up.

So I recently graduated from a Ninja 500r to an '06 CBR 600rr. I know that it's a large step in performance in all categories (except gas mileage) but i've noticed that it's extremely easy to lock up the rear tire. I practice emergency braking on the bike and consistently I end up with a rear wheel lock up around 80% of the time. I know that the brakes are much more powerful on this bike, and i'm wondering if it's just as issue of getting used to them or if it is just easy to cause a lock up.

Also, i'm pretty comfortable resetting after a lock up. Actually think it's kind of fun, but I digress.

One final question, do aftermarket tires have anything to do with this? I don't believe they would but I thought I should ask.

Yeah, it's just touchier/better brakes all around. And yes, different tires will make a slight difference depending on compounds and contact. Same as the tires being warm/cold will make a bit of a difference.

On my 06 F4i one of the first things I did was adjust the rear brake lever position. As it was, it was uncomfortable to apply the rear brake and I tended to overbrake simply trying to push down to a comfortable height.

After lowering it to a more comfortable position, the only time I lock the rear is on cold tires. Try getting used to it the way it is now. But adjusting the lever is also an option

Yea +1 on the cold tires and it doesn't take to much to lock up the rear I recently switched my 180 rear for a 190 and the larger contact path helps a little

Thanks a ton for the advice guys. I'll put a few more miles on the bike and see how that effects my braking. I'll definitely consider an adjustment though.
