RE: rattle
It sounds kind of like a buzzing noise right? Right around 5,000 RPM or so?
If yes to the above, then it's your tank cover. A little part of the plastic tank cover rubs a bit up against some internal components underheath. It was doing it on mine for about a month. A couple hundred miles later, it went away. It doesn't hurt anything or do any damage.
I was paranoid with my bike for the first month or so because I never owned a bike before and didn't know what different sounds it made and if they were bad or not.
Hope that helps.

Mine had the tank cover rattle too, it was driving me crazy. If it is the tank buzzing, pushing on the indented area at the front of the tank when it's happening will stop it - if it does, that the source.
If you want, you can remove the fuel tank cover and put a couple of strips of thin foam tape over the ICM and other exposed parts under there. It took care of my buzz, no problems at all. The cover's only held down with 6 bolts, two in front, two under the seat, and two under the air duct covers. The first duct cover will be a PAIN to get off, but once you remove one, the other should be easy. Just get the cover off, and foam tape everything that looks like it might contact, to be sure - I just used 1/4-inch strip window insulation.
With time to figure out the first air duct cover, this took me about 2 hours, and was well worth it. If I had to do it again, it would take about 1/2 hour...

RE: rattle
Rattle, buzz, vibrating noises, it's the same problem. It's the tank cover. You can take it off and fix it (foam tape) or just leave it. It'll take a couple of months for it to go away (or at least mine did). That or I just don't notice it anymore. It's kind of a pain to take off the tank cover though. And if you're not comfortable with taking off most of your fairings, I wouldn't. It's brand new bike and minor buzzes and rattles are there, but with time, they'll diminish or go away.

RE: rattle
I appreciate your input. This is my first new one with a five year warranty so I think any problems I can just take back to the dealership, but I would rather fix it myself. Ive already taken the front cowl off, so I am fairly comfortable with taking it apart. If you have any input as to problem areas with tank fix, please let me know!
