Winter is almost here and it's also almost time for me to buy a 06 CBR 600RR...
I will most likely be buying mid to late December.

Few questions...

1) What kind of price should I be looking for in mid to late Dec? I know prices will be cheaper due to end of year/new models/off season, but what numbers should I try and get it for?

2) What has everyone done with financing? The thing is, I DO NOT want to pay full coverage because I cant afford it. So liability/comprehensive is the only option. Has anyone financed through the Honda Credit card and if so how was/is that going?

I tried getting a personal loan from my bank, but did not have enough collateral... so unless i can get my car paid off by december, that is out of the question.

Any other financing suggestions are welcome, just as long as they dont require you to carry full coverage.

Thanks in advance!
To answer your questions first:

1) Usually prices stay about the same on the end of year models (because they go up in demand because the new ones don't come out until Februrary at the earliest.......I've seen the prices around here stay the same or go up. Also, I'll be surprised if the 2006 is even around in mid-Dec. All of the Yamaha dealers around town are out of the R6 until Feb, same goes with the Honda dealers around here. None until Feb. - So I would buy one sooner, or be prepared to purchase the 07 at about 1000.00 more than the current 600RR. - Regardless, I bought mine for 8500 out the door, tax, title and licence included. I've seen them as low as 7800 (before TTL).....so about $8100 ish area is a good place to be.

2) I tried to go with Honda financing. Freaking crap they were high interest rates. I have a really good credit score, but I only was approved for Half my bikes cost at a 17% interest rate. YEAH RIGHT! All the banks denied me for a 100% loan (no down payment). The only place I managed to get a great loan through was a Federal Credit Union. I managed a 8.3% interest rate for a 100% loan (lowest APR they offer). So I would check in to a Federal Credit Union first to finance.

Now, for a little opinon. Why in the hell would you EVER put Liability only on a bike? NO bank/credit union/Honda, etc. will finance you unless you have at least a 500/500 comprehensive Full coverage plan on your bike. These things are NOT cheap to fix if it gets laid down. Most bike accidents (that I've seen and heard about) are 1 vehicle accidents. Mostly taking a corner, then there's gravel on the road. Next thing you know, your bike is now a $8500 paperweight sitting in the garage with at least $2000+ damage on it, and you STILL have to pay the loan back. NOT A SMART MOVE. So go with full coverage if anything.

My insurance on my bike is 72 bucks a month for 250 collision, 250 deductible Full Coverage. I go though state farm along with my car on the plan (which is liability----it's a beater) and the car is only 32 bucks a month. Usually on a 600 class with no tickets, you can get insurance for full coverage (500/500) for under 100 bucks a month. GET FULL COVERAGE!

------THE FOLLOWING IS THE SMARTEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM A FRIEND OF MINE ------

"IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD FULL COVERAGE ON YOUR SPORTBIKE.....YOU CAN'T AFFORD THE UPKEEP ON YOUR SPORTBIKE! Period." - I never wanted to believe it, but trust me, it's far too true. Just ask anyone here.

Alright, now I'm almost done. I read you didn't take the class. That's not a smart move at all. I might sound like a preacher on this site, but that class helps like you would never believe. ESPECIALLY if you are going to purchase a 600RR as your first bike. I bought my 600RR as a first bike, and I love it. BUT---- I took the class two years ago, took it again 1 year ago, and took an advanced skills course 1 week before I bought my bike. These things are not very tame. One wrong slip of the throttle and you're eating asp

holy crap jeese start a new thread and dont even mention this is your first purchace.... i mean i dont want you to get hurt none of us do but holy pms batman

600rr was my first bike i hadnt spent alot of time on motorcycles........ but i did have a thing for two wheels never a street bike i also consider myself very alert and responsible

you can do as long as you dont ride irresponsibly

financing take out a personal loan from a bank no questions they give you the money, no full coverage(i could buy a new bike every year at the rate they charge)

great deal is 4900 sensible is 5300 prob starting to over pay around 5800 (thats for 03's try to go for 04's fixed the only problem with the 03)

TAKE THE MSF COURSE RIDE LIKE A PANZY WHILE U GET TO LEARN THE BIKE

Tell me this Knight. If the rider has no intention of riding wrecklessly, how exactly would the 600RR act differently from a SV650?

Why dont you try this, if you want to give advise or an opinion stop coming off as an internet badass. grow up.

The geometry of those two bikes are from different planets...totally different...the RR would be twitchy, touchy and jerky...very difficult for a new rider to handle...it's a bike meant for riders with experience...in fact, starting on an RR might cause the new rider to develop bad habits as a result of reacting to the bike all the time (survival reactions...see Keith Code), rather than feeling comfortable and being smooth on a motorcycle.

It kills me that so many of you guys write and tell your friends that the RR is "race ready" and in the same breath recommend it to a new rider as a starter bike...it makes no friggin' sense to me [&:]

Well slipper, Fret has just one example of how it differs, that being steering. anouther aspect of it power delivery. I think anyone here can tell you that the CBR motor is 10x more responsive than the SV650's motor. meaning it doesn't take a whole lot of fenagling to get it to respond. also meaning it's not going to take a whole lot to totally screw it up.

I got an 06 600RR for my first bike....little to almost no riding experience and I think im doin alright. Although i have already dropped it once (almost no visible damage) Im pretty comfortable riding. Im not up to doing wheelies or anything like that but as for jsut riding I dont think i could have picked a better bike. I like mine WAY better than my friends R6 he got when I got mine.
