Default Question about Oil Levels

Alright so I did self maintenance on the bike (08'CBR600rr) a few days ago for low mileage, and everything has been running cherry. Well today I came back from an hour ride, and notices a small egg-sized spot of oil. It wasn't a steady stream or anything, it was just some small drips. I inspected the oil bolt and found it was extremely loose! Lucky for me it didn't screw off when I was riding, I must have for some odd reason forgot to tighten it during the maintenance, although I don't recall forgetting that part...

So anyways, I've put a bucket underneath the bike just as a precaution and I'm going to check it in the morning. Also I made sure the Oil bolt was tighten very snug so this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

I checked the bike having it upright with the engine off, and looked at the oil levels. They were at the full marker, if not slightly above. When the engine was started and the bike was upright, the oil level showed it was halfway between low and full. Is this normal? Thanks in advance guys.

**EDIT: I was on level surface, and had to hold the bike "upright" myself, so there was possibility of it being maybe slightly tilted one way compared to another. It seemed to variate, and almost disappear during my observation, so saying it was between full and low could have been because of the angle I was holding the bike I guess. Really need to invest in a rear wheel center stand :\

Yes the level goes down when the engine is using the oil hence the reason they tell you to check it with the engine off.

Just a heads up, when ur tightening the oil drain plug bolt, be sure not to over tighten it. The bolt is steel and the pan is made of aluminum. The aluminum is pretty easy to strip by over tightening and thats not very fun to fix. I know from personal experience.

Torque wrenches do wonders for not over or under tightening bolts.
