Default Question about 2003 CBR

Hey guys, new to the forum, i ride a 06 R6 but my buddy is lookin into gettin a bike and he really likes the 600rr. I don't know much about Honda's and I went with him to the dealer today to check out some bikes. They had a 2003 Yellow 600rr for sale on the floor that has been used. Someone left the key on so i couldn't check the mileage but the salesman said he thought there was around 6000 miles on the bike. They were asking 6400 for the bike which i thought was a little high. Bike is in good condition, never been down, but it did have all its decals taken off by the previous owner. I wasn't sure if this was a 600rr or a F4i, as I can't find much info online about 03's for some reason. I asked the guys on my R6 forum but i figured you guys would have a little better knowledge on this subject. What would you all pay for this bike assuming it is a 600rr and has 6000 miles on it. I would definitely test ride it for him before he buys it, he has ridden a bit but not a ton and i figured a used bike would be better for him then buying a brand new one, along with taking the MSF course. Hope to get some good info from you all and thanks in advance.

Mike

welcome to the forum. easiest way to tell if it was a 600rr or an f4i is the exhaust. where was it? under the seat or side-mounted?

as for the price... that's about right for what dealers will ask but a better deal could be found. i've seen many 03 600rr's go for under $5500 easy.

+1, the exhaust is a no brainer to differentiate the two.

like i said, don't know much about cbr's at all, the exhaust was underseat so i'm assuming its a 600rr. any problems with 03's that i should check out for him (like the first gen R6 gearbox not going into 2nd) or stuff like that. price seem about right? seems a little high to me, but you guys would know. thanks again

I payed 5200 for my 03 cbr 600rr with 6000 miles. mine has some scrapes on the tank cover so I know that lowered the price but, I got two new tires and the fender eliminator (the nice one that goes way under the seat with the roller) so??? it seems a little high I guess but not out of talking range

No problems with the 03, but then again, it's a honda, honda's don't have problems. The price is a bit high, but if you can talk them down cause it's the end of the season, then 6k out the door isn't unreasonable from a dealer, it would actually be a good price if you can get them that low. Private party they will go lower, but not necessarily much lower. 600rr's keep there value very well after the initial hit. Is this his first bike? Although you probably don't want to be lectured on it, if this is his first bike, be a good friend and start him off on an older 600 (something cheaper if not less powerful), it would be a shame for him to crash the bike and hurt himself in the process, or the bike for that matter.

2003 and some 2004 RRs had Rectifier problems. Symptoms of a R/R problem is a constantly dead battery.
