Default Overheating after gear swap

Could just be ionic, but the bike started overheating after gear swap.

Runs at 200-210 almost everywhere I go, The odd part is it drops suddenly to normal temps now and then.

I am going to do the thermostat asap, and make sure its bled etc. I am pretty sure its not air in the system though because it was running fine and has never been cracked open. its getting checked filled and bled anyway.

Is there a chem test kit for bikes to see if the head is bad? Do the water pumps fail?

Bike only has 4600 miles on it but it was sitting for years.

The gear swap has nothing to do with it. Not sure if the water pump is a known issue on the RR but it sure is on the F4i, had to change mine on my old F4i. Look to see if the water pump is leaking or If any coolant is leaking. Flush the system out, snap the throttle a couple times t bleed it and see what that does.

We jsut moved down here so I could finish Law school, ao all my tools are in storage where I am from. All I have is a bag of the basic necessities and no garage... I live in a crappy apartment complex on the back side, so I do not even have access to a hose. Flushing this thing is going to be a pain. EIther that or I have to pay someone.... and motorcycle mechanics are freaking thieves...

seems like its running hot to begin with ........with my 1K it stays at 175 ish riding and only when stopped does it rise. Fan should kick on around 204 i think could be 214.

Have you checked the fluid level lately ?

To flush it out just buy a couple of gallons of distilled water from walmart at .88 each you shouldn't use reg water.

it fluctuates. Normally it runs about 175-185 , but latly its been about 200-210 BUT, it drops back into the normal range now and then, Its fluctuating. This was why I thought the thermostat may be sticking. I was jsut outside and let it idle for about 20 minutes, it got to 238 and there is coolant leaking out of the lower bolt on the water pump [hardly any, jsut a few drops over the 20 minutes, enough to fill half a 12 oz soda top.. Not the weep hole. but the bolt. Would this be enough of a leak to cause my overheating? and if so, whats with the fluctuating from normal op temp to high temps while riding.

I wa literally going in a strait line down the highway at 70 mph, and was 210......then dropped to 184....then back to 210 over and over during the 15 minute drive on the highway with no throttle work or anything, jsut cruising same speed.

Coolant level is within the high/low line on the overflow. but it has defiantly been loosing some over the last few hundred miles when this started. jsut not that fast at all

Have you checked the coolant level in the radiator instead of the level in the reservoir tank? Sounds like there might not be enough coolant in the radiator and it's playing games with the sensors.

Sounds like it's sticking .......forcing fluid out the bolt hole.

The coolant leak out of the bolt hole is going to introduce air bubbles into your system, which will float in and out of your radiator. This will absolutely cause huge temperature fluctuations. Fix the leak, drain and replace your coolant per the service manual, and I bet you'll be all good.
