Operating temperature in town when its hot (07cbr)
 

I live where it get pretty warm, average summer day is just a lil over 100 deg F, when is it considerd getting a lil hot? 225? i think the fan kicks on at 220 but at what point of temp should i shut her down? I ride everyday in the summer ( with helmet and jacket by the way) but i dont want my bike in any danger. whatcha guys think?

The bike should be fine to about 240f degrees. If it has a typical pressure cap,
it's rated at between 14 to 18 psi, so the coolant won't boil until about then.

Basically, until the pressure cap 'pops', you should be fine. Once the cap 'pops' ,
you start losing coolant. At that point, the system is compromised and you should
shut-down as quickly as safety permits.


On a side note, the fan's kicking in a little late (imo, don't have the specs to reference,
though). 190-ish is what I'm thinking is more appropriate for the fan to cycle.

F4i fans don't kick in till the low 220s, Ern. Dunno about other bikes. Yolie doesn't flip the switch till about 215 either

OP, as they said 215-220 the fan should come on.

Excuse the newbie here but do bike engines heat soak like performance car engines do? Only reason I ask is because unless your cooling system isn't working properly isn't it better to allow the system to circulate the coolant instead of turning the bike off and not allowing it so flow coolant and let the heat soak in?

I know you can kill the engine and let the fan run but I assume this would toll on your battery life. Where I ride it doesn't usually get over 80 so I don't have that issue but just for reference sake.

Actually, its 250. Your overheat warning won't come on the dash until you hit 250. The fan doesn't turn on until 220 to help with emissions.

my 08 CBR 600RR fan kicks in around 220.
