Oil Weight
Well, I did my first oil change. 3.5 hours (thanks to A/M header and being my first time) but I didn't scratch/break anything and got all the hardware back on. The manual says 10w40 and my dumb --- did not check before buying/draining my oil. So, I purchased Honda HP4S 10w30 full syn instead of 10w40. Do you think it will be a problem? My riding is mostly commuting and my bike is an 04 RR. It shifted/rode fine on the way home but I'd appreciate some input.

RE: Oil Weight
I run 20w50 in the hotter months and 10w40 in the cooler months. I'm not sure about 10w30 though. Should be fine, but I would wait for a few more replies to see what other people have to say that are more oil-literate than myself.

RE: Oil Weight
It's fine. I personally think that fully synthetic oils are pretty much a waste of money, though. But 10/30 will not damage anything. Honda wouldn't have it in their chemicals line if it damaged their bikes.

RE: Oil Weight
Thanks for the input. I figured it would be ok, but I wasn't 100%.

RE: Oil Weight
considering that my 07 manual says 10w30
i think you are ok oil weights have an overlap in heat range anyway if it starts to run a little hot then go to the 10w40 |
RE: Oil Weight
10/30 vs 10/40 both 10 weight at operating temp just one is 30 weight at room temp vs 40 so once you warm it up its all the same. I dont see any problem at all with this.

Im using Shell Rotella T synthetic. Read halfway down this article and you will understand why it is BY FAR the best for your bike (http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html).
