i know on my ex500 on the swing arm it stated that oiling the chain every 200 miles...

so just to keep the "chain gods" happy i oil the chain every 2 tanks of gas
or if i ride when its wet/damp out i oil when i get home

If it looks dry lube it. Manual says every 500 miles or as needed. You certainly can't over lube it. The most important thing is warm the chain up with a lap around the block then lube it, this will draw the lube into the o rings. I made the mistake (with my factory chain) of lubing after detailing my bike while the chain was cold. Then the lube would pretty much sling off the first ride after and not really penatrate into the o rings. My .02 Oh yeah, I use chain wax, can't remember the name tho.

no everyday/everyother day is not needed... maybe everyother fill up or once a month depending on how many miles you ride and more if you ride in rain or dirt more often.. chain wax is nice.. a good trick is after a long day of riding.. put it on the rear stand, put it in 1st gear and let it freespool and spray it on the chain as it goes around and then shut it off and let it dry on the chain, then you are all ready for the next ride

this works well for oiling the chain yes...but is a VERY bad idea for cleaning a chain [8D]
