just did my 4000mi oil change....but my first time to actually change it myself. sooo...it looks like the RR requires 3.1 quarts of oil. was there an easy way to figure out how much .1 quarts is? i really think that i put too much oil in....and will probably have to drain some of it out. at first i figured a little more would be better than a little less, but a buddy of mine told me that having too much oil is bad for your engine.

soooo.....should i go ahead and drain some out? the sight glass is kinda hard to use b/c i don't have stands yet...and i'd have to hold it up straight and bend over to look at it at the same time....any ideas?

 

You don't need a stand to check the oil; in fact, you'll get the wrong reading if you use a stand...just warm the oil (engine) and raise the bike off the kick stand to balance it (or center it), then check at the glass (have a friend help balance it if you're not comfortable doing it yourself). The 0.1 is a small amount and you can add or drain as needed...not a big deal. I check the oil by myself all the time, but then again I do a lot of things on the bike that some are not comfortable with. [&:]

 

soooo....if i were to drain that small amount of oil....should i just undo the filter and let oil drain out of that...or go for the drain plug??

 

Don't even worry about it. The bike will consume some of it any way. I use to fill a bike almost 1/2 half qt over for the stunters that would come down to the shop. Your fine, don't sweat it or waste the oil!
