Default I May Have an 04 RR Bought!!

Well, I may have an 04 RR bought. Less than 3000 miles. At a Honda dealer. Totally stock. Fully serviced with new rear tire due to nail in old one. Excellent condition - basically new. Prior owner bought extended warranty so it still has 2 years to go. $5500 is where we're about to settle. Am I doing OK guys?

Also, I'll have to go pick it up in my pickup truck since I don't have my motorcycle endorsement yet & it's some distance away. How are you guys transporting them in pickups? Techniques? I have a 93 Toyota with a long bed so should be OK. I've got a place in my yard where I can back it up & unload it on a ramp no problem.

I was planning to go for a new 06 in about a month or two, but this one kinda fell into my lap. Not a done deal yet, but probably pretty close. Would you go any extra over $5500 if it takes that to get the bike? If so, how much??

Thanks!!

Doesn't seem to bad for me. With the extended warranty it adds some more value. I was thinking 5K would be a good price, but didn't see the warranty at first. I would stand frim on the $5500. Don't go anymore. I put mine in a pickup. Just used straps to tie it down. Good Luck. Let us know.

Thanks Josh66. I'm not going higher. What kind of straps you using? I figure tie down 4 ways, in opposition to each other into all 4 corners of the truck bed. Sound about right?

yea mang...make sure you compress the suspension though and then strap it down hard.
good to go!
tie downs ROCK...so concentrate on what's going on in front of you and get the bike home safe, instead of always looking in your rearview at the bike!

Good advice!! Though I doubt I'll be able to NOT look in the rearview mirror....just a little!!

When I spoke with dealer today, he said there was some sort of device they used that didn't even touch the bike & you run the straps to that. Anyone know what that might be?

It'll be about a 475 mile drive home!!!

Yep, it's a hike.....BUT!! I have just been outbid by another. So I'd made the decision that I wasn't going over $5500 even though that met the reserve & it's a flawless bike. I would have to pay the expenses of getting it here + some sales tax in the state it's in, so we're talking a solid $6100 or so. For about $7683 I can ride a BRAND NEW 2006 600RR home from a dealer that's 50 miles away. It's only about $1600 difference. To me that's not enough to keep bidding the 04 up.

I think the 06s looks better being all red in the tail + the slight performance improvements after 05 means it's a better buy in my opinion. What do you all think?

I was happy to go for it at $5500, but not more & it just went to $5600 I was told.....

Looks like I'll be waiting for the 06 to come in.

just keep looking for that perfect deal.. it will happen, i know how that money is when it's burning a hole in your pocket.. but there's going to be a great deal nearby. if not, keep talking to the dealers - you can break them.. plus 400miles away, that's like about $60-80 worth of gas. plus straps..

Yep, I'm not in any sort of hurry. Half the fun is in the search. If I end up new...that won't be bad of course. I would like to save some money buying a really clean, low mileage pre-owned, but we'll see.

If you can afford it buy brand new. You will enjoy learning about the break in period plus it will be all yours from the very beginning. I bought my 05 600RR brand new and don't regret it a bit. As many of you know I am also going to buy my 06 1000RR brand new too instead of waiting till the end of next season just to save $500 bucks. I can’t wait till the dealer in Columbus, OH get them on the show room floor.
