help - lost piece in hole under seat
So I was installing my integrated taillight and removing my rear fender when I lost the tip of my ratchet under my front seat. Errr... There is a hole under the seat there that goes really far down to somewhere, any idea where? I tried to see where it went, but have no clue where. Will it harm anything to leave it there and hopefully it will either fall out or just stay put? I've since finished my project and put everything back together, but I'm afraid to start the bike up and take it for a ride. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you should be fine...but why didnt you just get it out once it fell? that would have been the best thing to do.

Leads down under the tank. the easyist way to get at it is to pull the tank cover off an prop the tank up that way you get very good access to that area.
You could also try fishing around through one of the side with a pen magnet, you might get lucky. Yes I've done the exact same thing before, more than once. You should be OK, but theres always the one-off chance is could get caught in the rear suspension somehow or even the front sprocket (I don't know how, but I sure at some time, in some alternate universe it could happen). But odds are it will just fall out eventually. |

You had better get that out of there. If it were to work it's way out while riding, it could end up under your rear tire, which would suck big time.

RE: help - lost piece in hole under seat
Do what I do when I loose a nut/bolt/ratchet, etc in a tight area.......go to a tools store and get one of those flexible rods with a strong magnetic tip. I've used mine more than enough to know that I can't work on any vehicle without it. Just stick the magnetic rod down into the dark area and poke around a bit. When you pull out, it should have what you are looking for. (That last sentence sounds so wrong LOL!!!!.....I really didn't mean for it to come out like that....LOL.)

RE: help - lost piece in hole under seat
THE DAMN PROBLEM WITH MAGNETS IS OUR STUFF IS MAINLY AL BOLTS GAH.......
get one of those flexy grabber tools i really dont know how to tell you any more than that but if you push on one end of this thing a 4 pronged claw spreads out from the other end....I hate that hole cover it i covered mine after loosing a million battery screws down it |
RE: help - lost piece in hole under seat
If the screws are plastic or non-magnetic, just get a shop vac and suck that damn thing out! lol. (also had to do that before)

that plastic is easilly removed by pushing the tabs in and pulling down on the peice under the seat/tank (exposed).
