My throttle has about a quater inch of play before it gives gas does anyone know how to fix it or is that normal. this is my first bike and I am not sure about some things on it.

 

should have gotten an EX500... that bike has been making mechanics out of newbies since 1987!

There are nuts on the throttle assembly. loosen one, adjust the tension on the "Shaft"part until it's where you like it (i'm not a big fan of going to spec on this part) and tighten the nut back on. make sure the throttle goes to WOT on the TBs / Carbs. you may need to adjust the line at the carbs / throttle bodies too...
