Default Checking the OIL?

when you all check your oil looking thru the sight glass, is the bike on the sidestand? or rear stand? the reason i asked this is because of what i found out today. here are pics to compare. Pic 1 is when the bike is on sidestand, notice the oil level is just above the low level line. Pic 2 is when the the bike is on rear stand, notice the sight glass is full. Now, which one should I go when I change the oil to have the correct oil level? newbie, first bike and about to change the oil. thanks.

so this means that the oil in my bike too much (overfilled). by looking at pic #2 on rear stand, bike is perpendicular to the ground.

Balanced by you or a friend off the side stand on fairly level ground...don't use a rear stand either because as you can see in pic 2 the level will be way off.

if the bike is on the rear stand AND ONLY THE REAR STAND the oil level will be incorrect, as fret mentioned. It must be perpendicular to the ground and level.

you had your oil changed at the dealer didn't you. Yeah they over filled mine a bit too... but yes if the bike is on both stands your seeing the correct oil line... But if it's just a little bit over I wouldn't worry. Mine has been that way for a few thousand miles now...no problems.

workshop manual says oil level should be checked only after, starting from cold bike has run for 5 minutes then turned off and left to sit for 3 mins.
Thats why you will be seeing to much oil in the sight glass when cold.
