Default Breaking in a new bike

Hey guys, i just wanted to start a discussion on what is the best way to break in our bikes. Every time i bought a new bike the salesman would say ride it under 6,000 rpm for the first 600 or so miles. But i also heard that riding it hard is very crucial to a new bike and even better for it. What are your opinions?

I babied it for the first 300 then I opened it up a little more from 300-600 but I didn't redline it.

This topic comes up often. My take on it is of all the bikes on the road today most have been broken in in so many different ways and most them are running fine. I have never heard of a bike in for maintenance because of how it was broken in.

I broke mine in by trying to very the RPM's when I remembered to but I certainly did not keep it below 6000 RPM's. What fun it that? If I remember correctly just cruising on the highway at 80MPH my bike revs at 7500RPM.

I say just ride your bike trying not to run it at a constant RPM like being on the highway for who knows how long. If want to go on an extended trip then up and down shift varying the RPM's.

i stayed under 6000 rpm for like 600 mi and then didnt redline for about another 500. then it was ***** to the wall. a friend of mine broke his in by staying under 6000 for 500 mi and then ***** to the wall.... and his bike only gets to 150 and mine gets 160+. so some can say its all the same... but make up your own mind. my advice is go talk to a motorcycle machanic.
