The first service is the important one, My dealer checked everything on the bike, fastners, chain, lube, oil change. It is important to get this service if you want to keep your warrenty.

I understand that its an oil and filter change, and a once over on all the major nuts and bolts to make sure everything is
tight, and perhaps a check ( ie - quick inspection) of the clutch and brakes.

Is it worth it to have them do it ? Thats up to you, for resale and peace of mind, I have the shop do my services. The tasks that they are doing for you are really not complicated however. It seems that plenty of people here do it themselves.

Goodluck,

Well ya go out and spend all that cabbage on a new bike and ya wont even maintain it properly..take it in and let them do what they get paid to do..besides even if you dont have to dough this week ya can put it off a few miles but this way u dont have to worry about doing it at all...no getting the filter or oil all over the place or trying to get the rear wheel off the ground and worrying about putting too much oil in...yadda yadda yadda...most of the 120 dollar fee is the 79 dollar an hr book labor they charge...im getting reasdy to take mine in for the 4000 mile check up and i got it back in April and i took it for the 600 and an oil change at 3000.Its just a piece of mind knowing its done right...but bea cowboy if ya like....do it your self and save the 120....void your warranty ...
