Default 2007 600RR Project/Mods (ongoing) "UPDATED"

"UPDATE 9/13 Frame slider install Pg 3"

Saw this done on another forum, and it was very helpful. So i figured i'd give it a shot, maybe it'll help someone else out or give em some ideas.

Picked up my bike brand spankin new from the dealership. This is my fourth bike but my first brand new one, so i was stoked. Had it home for about 5 mins before i started takin it apart.

1) Started with the removal of all the reflectors. Simple, but one thing to note---when i removed the front reflectors, i found that without the bracket the rubber grommets would continue to crush and be distorted when re-tightening the front. After gettin pissed for a sec, i realized that i could simply snap off the tab that actually had held the reflector, i could replace the bracket, replace the screws, and the bracket could no longer be seen.

2) None of my new accessorieshad come yet, so my first real project was the pinstriping. Took about 4 hours, and i'm really pleased with it. Two rolls of black pinstriping tape cost me about $5 at autozone. A couple things to consider:

-Take your time. The best part about this tape is that it peels back off easily if you screw up.
-Get a good razorblade.
-Before starting, realize and accept that fact that you will be scoring your clearcoat with a razor. The only way i could find to make sure the striping was cut perfectly was to cut it ON the bike. Therefore, if you ever decide to remove it, you'll have small light clearcoat scores where you cut the tape.

3) Next were the front turn signals. I had the hotbodies on my 03RR, but opted for the Bikelitz front flushmounts this time. Sorry, i dont have step-by-step intall pics for this. However, it went like this:

-Unscrew front orange cover of old signals
-Unscrew small screws that hold light reflector behind bulb
-Pull entire socket assembly out far enough to cut all three wires (this will give you a TON of extra wiring to work with)
-Unbolt signals from inside of fairing (no fairing removal needed)
-Connect ground and lead wires (leave running lights unhooked)
-Attach Bikelitz signals with included screws
-Use included ziptie to secure wiring inside of fairing

Note: Bikelitz supplies both mounting and backing plates with the kit. The backing plates weren't needed, but i chose to use the mounting plates to make the signals stick out just a bit more for better visibility. They are very bright. I also chose to NOT use the supplied resistors because i like the faster blink rate. However, i kept them to use when i do my taillight swap.

So at this point i'm kinda stalled out waiting for some more parts to arrive. My tailight and plate mount are stuck in the mail somewhere, and my windscreen wont be here til tomorrow. Meanwhile, i got sick of that nasty mudflap hanging off the back...i didn't know whether to cut it off or paint a big yosemite sam on it and get a CB. So anyways, i took out the razor, and literally just cut from front to back, just under the taillight.

I then took the old plate mount bracket, which was in the shape of a "U", and straightened it out with a set of vise-grips. I removed the silver taillight bracket from behind the taillight, drilled two new holes in it, and mounted the old plate mount bracket directly to it. Then i just reinstalled everything. It looks alot better.....still way too much hangin there in my opinion, but definitely an improvement. Can't beat free!!!

-Windscreen
-Taillight and plate mount
-Sliders (think i'm gonna go with direct mount, so i'll be cutting the fairing)

Looks awsome, I like the striping alot. Personally I took off all of my stickers except for the tank (obviously) and the side farings and the Honda on the bottom. Cleaned it up alot, but I actually like the black accents with the striping. Nice job.

Got my windscreen today...it's a Pit-eck double-bubble smoke windscreen from Pit-eck.com. Pretty quick install...

-Remove 6 plastic bolts and washers, set aside
-Remove old windscreen. You'll probably have to muscle it a lil bit. Be sure to remove all 6 of the rubber mounts.
-Seat six rubber grommet mounts into the 6 holes on the new windscreen.
-Install windscreen and secure with original screws and washers.

I'm still undecided on whether or not i'm happy with this mod. I think i like it, but i feel like it needs something to break it up a little bit...i might cut a new decal of some sort to put a little contrast into it. Sounds like a new project! lol
