Default 2005 CBR600RR Fuel Mileage

I have been keeping track of fuel mileage on the bike for a while, and the best average between fill-ups, during a week with no rush hour traffic or pounding turns, was 30MPG. Every other week has averaged 25MPG. Is this normal? My previous bikes have included a GSXR-1000 that got 35+ MPG and a DRZ-400SM that got 45 to 55MPG.

This bike is my daily commuter/grocery getter. I bought it a few months ago from a guy who bought it, then didn’t really ride it for a year. The guy he bought it from put in an Arata slip-on, but I have no other information about what he might have done to the bike.

Mechanically, the bike seems great. It runs strong, idles perfect, runs cool enough, and I did an oil change right after I got it that produced oil with no obvious problems.

Most people average anywhere from 30-40 MPG from what I have read, some higher, some lower. If you hold out in the gears and keeps the bike at higher revs it will kill the gas mileage. My 09 I average about 35 MPG.

I'm getting 45mpg out of my '06 600rr, and I run it hard at times. If you're getting 30mpg, I'd start looking for reasons why. That seems wayyy low. When was the last time you or anybody else checked the air filter or spark plugs?

If you get 45 MPG out of your bike then you probably never go above 4k RPM's...Every rider is going to be different, the higher you go up in the RPM's the more gas you will use. It also depends on how you commute, if you are rarely stopping you will get better gas mileage, if you run alot in town and are constantly stopping it will hurt the gas mileage....30-40MPG is about average. I think 25MPG is pretty low unless you are riding hard.

my old F4 I got around 42-45 MPG.

I average about 40mpg. I commute 50 miles a day to work so it's mostly highway.

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll start looking for a problem this weekend, but I’m not sure where to start. The spark plugs should probably get changed soon, but if those were the cause of the problem, I would expect the idle and top end power to be suffering as well.

My riding is almost entirely in a city (well, the whole island of Oahu is pretty much a city), but highway riding does not improve my mileage. I generally cruise at around 4K RPM, and I try to keep the revs below 5.5K when I can on the highway to keep the engine from opening the second injector.

for the record and for comparison, my 1000rr has been getting 40mpg under average city driving. my f4i would get 45.
