18,000 Mile Bike Service
 

Hello Everyone,

I bought my 2003 600rr used with 7500 miles on it. Since then, I've kept up with changing the oil and filter on a regular basis and even changed the spark plugs at 16,000 miles. Other than a new set of tires and regularly lubing the chain, that's is all the maintenance I have done on it.

I currently have 18,000 miles on it and it's in the shop getting a new chain and sprockets. I was wondering if there is anything else I should get done on it. Looking at the manual, it suggests things like inspect valve clearance, the clutch system, etc... but my shop says that's going to be like 600 dollars to do, and quite frankly I know those periodic maintenenace schedules are kinda overkill.

I've only been riding for 2.5 years and was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what I should get replaced. I was thinking air filter and maybe new brake fluid but I'm not sure if it needs it...I don't have much experience with bike maintenance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't taken it to the track, I don't abuse the bike and ride fairly responsibly.

Something most people dont usually pay attention to is the bearings in the wheels. My old F2's wheel bearings decided to go out on me and it was a pretty nasty ride. Thats something you could do yourself though. They are cheap.
