Is $1,800 too much for custom paint job?
I'm looking at adding some tribal type of gray colored art on my black 05 CBR 600RR. I know there is a sticker, but I want a more custom look. One of my students dad does custom paint jobs on bikes and he happens to be a co-workers brother so I hope it is a good deal. He would be taking off all stickers, repainting the lettering, adding some metal flake tribal art and shooting it with four coats of clear. Below is a picture of my helmet and what type of art I was looking at. He stated he could make them look much better. Thanks for the suggestions.

Although it sounds nice, Knightslugger is right on that. And also, it sounds a little bit on the steep end to me. I have a custom Job done on my CAR for $2200 and that has ALOT more area to cover, a lot more prep and a lot more material, And I have some pinline detail on my along with custom paint, but, it also depends on where your at.

Not all paint jobs are created equal. Just to get some background info, I'd have your bike quoted at couple of places where they do high quality paint jobs on MOTORCYCLE FAIRINGS. From what I hear, motorcycle paint is different from automobile paint. When you get the quotes ask what's involved in the work, warranty, etc. Become educated before you have someone do the job. This way, you'll know what to look for, and how to inspect/evaluate the job.

Thanks everyone. I'm planning on keeping this bike for at least the next three years. I'm not expecting to make a profit on the sale. In three years, I'll probably be giving it away. I have about 2K in the bike now. It has no tribal colors and 5,500 miles on it. I'm on a list to buy a 07 Honda 1000 RR Repsol in a few months, but I was thinking about just fixing up what I have and save a little money. I owe about 5K on my bike now and my payment would go up about $75. I'll continue to price paint jobs around Central Cali. If it is too much, maybe I'll just get that Repsol. Take it easy.

I painted my car myself for less than $600 for paint, supplies and renting out a booth for a weekend. A shop would have cost me $2500 for the quality of work that I did with mine, so a totally custom, air brushed, super high-quality paint job on a bike for $1800 sounds about right, just make sure you have really good frame sliders to protect it.
For anyone who cares, here's a pic of the car: (p.s. it was my first time ever painting a car....beginners luck I guess.)
