Default 09 600RR Catalytic Converter question

Alright gang get your thinking caps on.

I strongly dislike how my catalytic converter looks on my bike, and I could see the heat creation being a bother in the summer months (right now it seems like a welcome addition). I also wouldn't mind the improved sound.

Regardless, I want to get rid of the Cat.

I DO NOT want to punch out the cat - air turbulence.

I DO NOT want to get a full exhaust system - low end sacrifice.

I THINK I want to have the cat cut out and have an exhaust shop put in a piece of stainless pipe in its place.

Has anyone done this?

Is there an 02 sensor I need to worry about (non cali model)?

Could this cause any Air / Fuel Ration problems? Requiring a Power Commander?

Thanks.

theres no 02 sensore if its a non cali, and yes u can get a thing welded in place of it

you wont NEED a pc, but if u go with a slip on or something its reccommended. but it really wont hurt it to not have it. prolly will run about the same as the cat isnt too restrictive

To get a shop to weld in a pipe in place of a cat you would have to know someone, a local shop normally wont touch that. I dont see any reason to get rid of it, but if you do know someone that does exhaust work, or that can weld then I would go that route. But as far as sound/performance gains I doubt the cat is that restrictive...I remove them from my stang, but it had 6 cats and I didnt see any performance gain, but it made the car sound 10x better....

cats the most restrictive part of exhaust system...

nate said his yoshi wasnt very loud.... ide say ditch the cat and have a shop weld in a piece of stainless.... you may not see performance gains but ur bike will be louder....

i know a guy here that will fab up any exhaust i can design... shame ur not around here ide hook you up lol (if you wanted this winter you could send me ur pipe and i could have him do it)

nate just call around and see if any shop will do it... im sure alot wont but ull find one thats like to hell with it and do it...

nate-i dunno how your riding season is but i can see how hard the pc is to take off and maybe u can borrow it to see if u like it. i really doubt it makes much of a difference. i sure didnt notice much if any on my f4i, only reason my rr has one-is bc it came with it lol

Ahh big time thanks for the offer Van, but my rides are starting to get farther and farther apart. I do ride all winter, but no major outings. We'll see what I decide to do.

I think you should just go full dude.. when its all said and done you will be ALOT happier with the outcome.. aside fromt he obvious flow obstruction the cats weigh a ton.. your bike will definatly feel better with that 10-15 lbs removed from the mix.. I can tell you that if you dont like the look of the cat .. you will absolutely hate looking at a rusting hack and wield... on top of that .. consider your computer.. with a full exhaust on the newer models it wont run optimally.. fuel maps will be off significantly..
