Default 05 cbr600rr coolant flush question.

Hey everyone, so I have a bit of a question. I was doing my coolant flush on my 05 cbr600rr and noticed once I had flushed through distilled water then drained and went to fill the system with actual coolant it only took about 1.86L. So I looked over the manual and it says you have to pull the header and rad to drain the cylander block from another drain bolt. Now what I am wondering since this is my first time doing my rr is do I really have to do this. The manual I have is a clymer and it's on page 68. Now the biggest question is will I have to flush everything with distilled water re-assemble the header and rad then repeat this then do the final coolant fil/air bleed.

Just wondering if anyone has ever followed this procedure. Doing my cars coolant changes often I was just used to everything draining out from the bottom of the rad drain plug.

Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

i never have. i just drain it from the lowest part. if its super cruddy, or if you are switching to special coolant, you will want to get as much out as possible. i would drain it, fill with water, bring to temp to circulate it, drain it again. repeat until its just clear water, then drain again and fill with coolant. if it is not pre mixed, mix it on the strong side to account for the extra water.

I think there's a gizmo that, after removing the radiator cap and replacing with the gizmo, will pressurize the cooling system. If you then have the drain open, you could keep adding distilled water till it runs clear, then add 50/50 antifreeze till it started coming out the drain. Your system would then be totally flushed. The only part of this I can't help with is where to get this pressurizing cap (gizmo). Maybe someone else will jump in and tell us both....Tom

Edit:

http://www.mityvac.com/pages/new_products.asp ......This company sells the gizmo and I think I can get one in Tampa if needed. No idea of the cost.

open the drain bolt, then flush it with at least 1 gallon of distilled water. then put new coolant in the radiator ,and the coolant resevoir ..then bleed the system out. you do this by keepin the radiator cap open and start the engine and let it get warm, you'll then see it starts to boil.and blip the throttle a few times. and close the cap. Ka-pesh ?

While you're at it, probably a good idea to throw some Engine Ice in there. Mix 50/50 with coolant! My bike is loads cooler while cruising and takes longer to heat up when stuck in traffic.
